A mattress pad used to be just that. It was a thin cover that was put over the mattress in order to protect it. Over the years, these pads have developed into miracle coverings that can make old mattresses come to life again and add extra layers of comfort to every mattress. One of the major innovations in beds in recent decades has been the pillow top mattress. Made with a soft, cushioning layer on one side, these mattresses revolutionized the field of comfortable sleep. Since many people didn’t have new pillow-top mattresses and others couldn’t afford them, manufacturers can up with pillow top mattress pads which would do basically the same thing but without the high cost.
Now that memory foam has started taking over the bedding market, what do you suppose has happened? If you said that manufacturers are now making memory foam pillow top mattress pads, you were right. The old types of mattress pads are slowly giving way to the new technology of memory foam. Of course, just like beds of the same material, these mattress pads aren’t cheap. What you’ll pay depends on how thick of a pad you want and the size of your bed. For example, there’s a memory foam mattress pad on Amazon.com that’s 4” thick and costs $869 for a king, and that’s supposedly on sale. However, if you want to sleep on memory foam, this pad presents a much more affordable option to buying the whole mattress.
Memory foam pillow top mattress pads encased in fabric are advertised as being the finest mattress pads in the world. In fact, advertising even compares them most favorably to Tempurpedic memory foam mattresses by saying that they have everything the mattress has plus quilted Cool Max fabric which allows the sleeper to stay cool while sleeping.
Long gone are the years when Ma and Pa slept on cornshuck mattresses and featherbeds full of feathers they’d plucked themselves. Everything possible is being done to make for a good night’s sleep night after night. Most pillow top mattress pads are hypoallergenic so that allergens won’t attack you while you’re sleeping. These mattress pads can make any hard bed feel soft and comfortable and are truly worth the price of buying them.
